Carrie Underwood Looks Back on Her CMA Awards Debut
Carrie Underwood takes a trip down memory lane in a new video, looking back on her first time taking the CMA Awards stage and winning 2006 Female Vocalist of the Year.
"I was horrified!" Underwood admits of her CMA debut performance of "Jesus Take the Wheel" in 2005. "Horrified is the wrong word -- umm ... nervous? But it doesn't seem like there's enough weight on the word nervous, though. There was just a lot of emotions and I was like, 'What if they never ask me to come back here ever again? This could be my one and only shot to perform on the CMAs.'"
The upcoming 2016 awards show marks the ninth consecutive year Underwood will be hosting alongside Brad Paisley, so it's pretty safe to say they loved her after that first performance.
In the video, Underwood goes on to remember her 2006 win as Female Vocalist of the Year, and she recalls thinking that she didn't stand a chance taking home the trophy. The clip of her acceptance speech includes tears of disbelief and happiness rolling down her cheeks and after watching it, we're a little teary-eyed, too.
"You guys, like two years ago I was sitting at home watching these very awards watching all these other people win and have the best nights of their lives," she proclaimed emotionally upon receiving her award. "And this is the best night of my life."
During this year's 50th Annual CMA Awards Underwood will be performing and hosting. She's also nominated for several honors, including Female Vocalist of the Year, Album of the Year and the night's greatest prize, Entertainer of the Year.
The 2016 CMA Awards will broadcast live from Nashville on Nov. 2 on ABC.
