Carrie Underwood already has an award to celebrate in 2016. Wednesday night (Jan. 6), Underwood received the award for Favorite Female Country Artist at the People's Choice Awards. On Thursday (Jan. 7) she took some time to thank fans in a video message, where she shared her excitement for the fan-voted award.

"I just won a People's Choice Award and that's your fault," she says with a big smile. "So, thank you guys, so so much. I just wanted to say thank you. This is a really, really wonderful way to start the year and it's going to be a big, awesome year. Thank you for making this happen. You guys are the best."

Underwood rang in 2016 with a live performance on New Year's Eve in New York City for Dick Clark’s New Year’s Rockin’ Eve With Ryan Seacrest. Seacrest later admitted that in his opinion, Underwood is the biggest star to win American Idol. For the past two years, she has been ranked by Forbes as the top earner from American Idol. According to Forbes, Season 8 runner-up Adam Lambert tops the list of top earners in 2015. Underwood, who was the top earner in 2013 and 2014, finishes in second place this year, earning $8 million with a combination of recorded music and live shows.
