The Chainsmokers on Working With Kelsea Ballerini: ‘You Look at Her and You Smile’
"This Feeling," the Chainsmokers' collaboration with Kelsea Ballerini, is here, and it's a jam! The electronic-pop duo recently chatted with Zane Lowe from Beats 1 on Apple Music about the track and admit that the happy country singer's optimism rubs off on them.
"I feel like you look at her and you smile," Alex Pall admits. "She's such a happy person. We got this video back for the song and just looking at her you're like, 'She's such a cutie.'"
It turns out the feeling is mutual. When prompted to FaceTime Ballerini, Pall obliged — the "I Hate Love Songs" hitmaker picked up from her vacation in Mexico. She admits that the Chainsmokers have been her dream collaboration for two years.
These Country Crossovers Were More Forgettable
"I love that they write their stuff. They're songwriters which I relate to so much and respect a whole lot. I love their stuff. I've covered it for a couple concerts too which is really fun," she says. "Last year I was opening for Lady Antebellum and I covered 'Closer' and then I did an Instagram cover of 'Paris.'"
Pall says when they initially sent Ballerini the song, she wrote back right away and said she was in.
"Everything's been super fun and as far as working with Kelsea, I can't wait to see her at the next live performance of the song," he adds.
Ballerini hopes their collaboration allows people to break the stigma that country music is all about trucks and introduces new fans to the genre. "It opens the opens the doors more which is kinda sick," she says.
