Just a few days ago, Rascal Flatts bassist Jay DeMarcus and his wife Allison welcomed baby boy Dylan Jay into the world. Now that DeMarcus is done panicking about his lovely wife's delivery, he's stopped touring for a few days to enjoy some cuddle time--and probably changed plenty of diapers, too. In a recent interview the 41-year-old father shared the reason he was so scared.

DeMarcus panicked when he got a call before a Rascal Flatts show in Detroit, Mich. Allison went into labor early and she was going to undergo a c-section at a Nashville hospital. Since the baby wasn't supposed to arrive until August, DeMarcus told People he immediately went into 'panic mode' after getting the call.

Like any good dad, the award-winning bass player hopped a flight back to Tennessee to be with his wife. DeMarcus arrived about an hour before Dylan Jay arrived, but only had about 20 minutes to hold his son and soak up that new baby smell before going back to Detroit to play the show.

“My wife was still on the operating table so it was very, very hard to leave, but we had a sold-out show and four acts out with us. I wanted to keep my commitment and my wife gets that,” he explained. “I had a police escort when I hit the ground and got there 30 minutes before we went on stage, so I just left my scrubs on. The crowd was very sweet and gave me a standing ovation!”

Allison, 35, assured her husband that she and Dylan were doing well once doctors cleared fluid from the baby's lungs. Being the trooper that he is, DeMarcus played two more Rascal Flatts shows over the weekend before returning home to his loving family.

“I literally got back [Monday] morning and Dylan’s been in my arms all day,” he said. “It’s made the stressful weekend worth it to come back and hold him. It’s finally sinking in that I’ve got a boy that’s going to carry on our family name and I’m so thrilled to have little Dylan in our lives.”

Congratulations to the DeMarcus family on their newest addition!
