Kane Brown Is Collaborating With EDM Artist Marshmello
Kane Brown is joining forces with one of the most prominent names in EDM music.
Known for his genre-bending sound, Brown will push further outside the confines of country music for a collaboration with Marshmello in the new year. The news was confirmed by the DJ on Thursday (Nov. 22) when he tweeted, "I’m thankful that me and @kanebrown have a song coming next year."
Details are scarce, but Brown is exciting and anticipates that fans will be emotional about it, too. "It’s too real ... it’s gonna get to many people in their feelings," he says, "and it’s a jam only listened to it like 600 times."
The "Lose It" singer dropped some subtle hints on the red carpet at the 2018 American Music Awards that the two would be working together. He revealed to Billboard that he was in talks with one of the non-country artists at the awards show about doing a collaboration, even confirming that it was a dance music artist.
"I wouldn’t say it’s like the Chainsmokers, but it is," he hinted on the red carpet, which took place in October. When asked if it was Marshmello, he bashfully responded, "Maybe. That'd be cool."
Marshmello has collaborated with a number of artists from many genres, including Demi Lovato and Noah Cyrus. He is the co-writer and producer behind Selena Gomez's 2018 global hit, "Wolves" and even has a fan in Keith Urban, who covered his song "Happier" during an appearance on Australian radio station KIIS 106.5.
Brown is the latest in a line of country artists to collaborate with an artist in the pop/EDM world. Maren Morris had one of the biggest pop hits in 2018 with Zedd and Grey on "The Middle," while Kelsea Ballerini recently lent her voice to the Chainsmokers' "This Feeling." Thomas Rhett even turned one of his cuts off Life Changes, "Leave Right Now," into an EDM jam, and Urban announced that he's teaming up with rapper Post Malone for a televised Elvis Presley tribute set to air in 2019.
Brown's sophomore studio album Experiment landed at No. 1 on the Billboard 200 after its November release, making him the first male country act in over two decades to bow at the top of the all-genre chart with his second album.
