Kid Rock Calls ‘The View’ Host Joy Behar the B-Word, Loses Nashville Parade Grand Marshal Title
Kid Rock got a little too free with his speech on Nov. 30, when during an appearance on Fox News' Fox & Friends he called The View host Joy Behar the B-word. His controversial comment resulted in his being stripped of his impending duties as the 2018 Nashville Christmas Parade grand marshal on Saturday (Dec. 1).
Rock, during a discussion of political correctness in America on the network, let loose with the following sentiment on Friday morning: "God forbid you say something a little bit wrong, you're racist, homophobic, Islamophobic, this that and another. I would say, 'love everybody,' except I'd say, 'Screw that Joy Behar b---h.'"
Fox & Friends host Steve Doocy apologized on Rock's behalf, to which Rock added the amendment: "I mean 'lady.'"
He then said he was sorry for his language, but not for the sentiment behind it, and noted "We all love this country, and let's have different ideas but try to move forward and be more together."
Given his divisive choice of words, that wasn't enough for some of the parade organizers to forgive him. "Parade organizers feel that the grand marshal should personify the spirit of the Nashville community," the Monroe Carell Jr. Children's Hospital at Vanderbilt, the parade's beneficiary, announced, according to the Tennessean. Nashville Mayor David Briley also noted that he would be reluctant to participate in the parade if Rock were allowed to keep his post.
Taking Rock's place will be James Shaw Jr., the Nashville man who famously disarmed the gunman in the shooting at a Waffle House in Antioch, Tenn. earlier this year.
However, Steve Smith, who is the owner of several Lower Broadway bars that are co-organizers of the parade and is also a business partner of Rock's, says the entire controversy is "stupid" and that Rock will be at the parade and will remain the grand marshal "until someone reimburses us."
We'll see what transpires.
