Miranda Lambert’s ‘Keeper of the Flame’ Shows Vulnerabilities [Listen]
Miranda Lambert is letting the music do the talking, slowly revealing songs from her new The Weight of These Wings album. On Friday (Oct. 28), she released "Keeper of the Flame" to fans.
The mellow acoustic song is found on Disc 2, "The Heart," on her new double album (Nov. 18). It's reminiscent of early Lambert ballads — songs where she reflects on her life and decisions. "Keeper of the Flame" finds her making a commitment:
"Sometimes I’m just a flicker / A candle in your eye / But I swear to God, I’ll never let it die," Lambert sings during one of the new song's more memorable sections.
The "Vice" singer wrote the song with Natalie Hemby and Liz Rose. She's released the track listing for her new album, but hasn't shared many of the songs. This song is all about owning her responsibilities, however challenging that may be.
“I'm the keeper of the flame / The teller of the story / The keeper of the flame / For the ones that came before me," Lambert sings at the chorus.
The Weight of These Wings is Lambert's sixth studio album and the first since her divorce from Blake Shelton in 2015. She's indicated that like Shelton, she'll pour her heart out and rely on her heartache for songs from the new album. The CMA Female Vocalist of the Year nominee is currently dating Anderson East.
"Keeper of the Flame" was the name of Lambert's summer tour.
