Riley Green’s ‘Numbers on the Cars’ Was Inspired by Alzheimer’s
Riley Green's "Numbers on the Cars" is a heartfelt track inspired by his family's emotional journey with a loved one's Alzheimer's. The emotional song details how his great uncle's life has changed with the disease, and what Green's relationship is like with him.
"Try to get him out like we used to / Now I load the truck and I drive the boat / 'Cause there ain't much he can do / Cast him a line and watched it as it sank / Thinkin' how we used to talk for hours / Now he just stares at the bank / He used to know every stop in this fishin' hole / Though he probably thinks that we're in Mexico / But he knows his way around that boat / Even in the dark / And he still knows the numbers on the cars," Green sings in the chorus.
The song is included on Green's upcoming EP, Get That Man a Beer, which releases June 14 on Big Machine Records. Green's current single “In Love by Now” has fans falling in love with his music, which follows his No. 1 debut single, “There Was This Girl.”
The new song was produced by Dann Huff, while Green is credited as the sole songwriter. “Growing up near the Talladega Superspeedway I used to go over to my Grandaddy’s house as a kid and watch the races," Green shares in a press release. "He knew every driver's name, number, and sponsor and so as the racing season kicks into full gear, it seemed like a perfect time to debut this song, I hope y'all enjoy it!”
