‘The Voice': Team Blake’s Kat Hammock Sings Sweet Shania Twain Standard
This Monday night after the Thanksgiving holiday, (Dec. 2) the top 10 Voice contestants came down to the wire, performing live for coaches Blake Shelton, Kelly Clarkson, Gwen Stefani and John Legend, as well as for America's votes.
Shelton had a particularly sweet moment this evening when his teenaged, ethereal-voiced team member Kat Hammock had her turn, performing Shania Twain's almost-too-romantic "Still the One." As he put it, "This is the perfect song for her right now. It's an innocent-sounding love song... This girl has a way to tap into something that I've never experienced before as a listener, as a fan of music."
"I could be having the worst day of my life and hear your voice singing and instantly feel better," he told Hammock.
Indeed, the song was a good match to Hammock's dreamy style, which isn't particularly suited to ballsier rock or heavily flavored country. After her performance, the coaches were ready to rave.
"That was magical. You are magical. That's one of my favorite songs," enthused Stefani. "Blake knows that what I know about you is you can hear the air coming through your voice. It's so weird and different and unique and original. Just the timing of the way you pick to bend the notes and scoop. It's like what is she doing? How is she thinking that up? That's what's so magical about you. Nobody is like you! You are the most original person on the show for sure."
It would be hard to top that kind of praise, but Shelton did, comparing Hammock to an angel on the top of the Christmas tree. We'll see if America agrees with their votes.
We'll be following along each week to keep up with the Season 17 competition, so be sure to check in weekly to check the progress of your favorites on the show.
