Carrie Underwood Goes Vegan… Again
Carrie Underwood has subscribed to a vegetarian lifestyle for seven years, due to the increased health benefits of a meat-free diet. The 'Good Girl' singer has revealed that she is taking things a step further and is about "95 percent vegan" at this point. That means she is attempting to develop a diet completely devoid of any animal products, which includes dairy, honey and more.
"I've been a vegetarian for seven years, but after seeing a friend who looked amazing and had recently gone vegan, I thought, 'What's holding me back?' Now I'm 95 percent vegan," Underwood told SELF about her transition in a new cover story. The five percent of the time that she is not a vegan comes at times when she's at a birthday party and can't resist cake!
Going vegan is an incredibly hard lifestyle to adopt, since so many food products and items are of some sort of animal-derived origin, so the fact that Underwood is 95 percent of the way there is impressive. This isn't the first time she's walked down this animal-free road, though. Last summer, the 'Undo It' hitmaker announced that she was attempting a vegan diet due to being lactose intolerant, but we can only assume she didn't stick with it, as she's giving it another publicized go in 2012.
Underwood is adamant that she will never eat meat again, but she did admit that she would resume consuming dairy products if she had access to proof that the processing facilities are clean and up to code. She explained, "My veganism is based on a concern about where my food is coming from. In my perfect world, I'd have webcams wherever food is processed so I'd know how clean it is."
She shared that she "looks and feels better" without meat, but she also expressed interest in having her own farm. "If I could raise my own cows and chickens and produce my own eggs and cheese, it would be awesome," she explained, toying with the possibility of opening up her diet to dairy in the future. "The food would taste better, because the animals would be happy!"
