Chris Stapleton’s ‘Either Way’ Wins Best Country Solo Performance Grammy Award
Chris Stapleton's sparse ballad "Either Way" won the 2018 Grammy for Best Country Solo Performance on Sunday (Jan. 28).
An out of breath Stapleton rushed to the stage to take his award from presenter Paul Shaffer. He'd just walked in the room and was noticeably out of sorts, but appreciative. "This song is just me and an acoustic guitar," Stapleon said of the song from From A Room Vol. 1, "So that win is a beautiful thing for me."
The other nominees in this category were Sam Hunt's "Body Like a Back Road," Maren Morris' "I Could Use a Love Song," Alison Krauss' "Losing You" and Miranda Lambert's "Tin Man."
The win is Stapleton's third Grammy Award, but he'd go on to win No. 4 moments later in the Best Country Song category. No one joined Stapleton onstage to accept. He wore all black and no hat.
The Best Country Solo Performance Grammy was presented during the Grammy pre-show, which was live-streamed at the Grammy website. Only the Best Country Album will be presented live during the 2018 Grammy Awards. Maren Morris, Stapleton, Brothers Osbrone, Little Big Town and Eric Church are the country performers.
The televised 2018 Grammy Awards begin at 8PM ET on CBS. James Corden will host.
