Fiona Culley Goes Acoustic for Intimate ‘Act Like a Lady’ Performance [Exclusive Premiere]
Fiona Culley recently released her debut single, "Act Like a Lady," but you've never heard it quite like this before. The British country singer shares a stripped-down acoustic rendition of the song in a Taste of Country exclusive.
Culley is back on familiar terrain during her acoustic version of "Act Like a Lady." She shot to viral fame with an acoustic cover of Ed Sheeran’s hit "Thinking Out Loud" that has earned nearly 3 million views on YouTube alone, which helped bring her to the attention of a much wider audience. She possesses a voice strong enough to carry and project "Act Like a Lady" all by itself, accompanied only by a guitarist and some simple backing vocals.
The song finds Culley vowing not to get taken in by a man again. "Act like a lady / Think like a man / Smile and look pretty / But have a backup plan," she sings in the chorus. "Whisper him sweet little lies / Don't look him in the eyes / Don't let him know where you stand / Act like a lady / Think like a man."
Born and raised in Staffordshire, England, Culley parlayed a regular gig at the Troubadour into a move to Nashville at the urging of a former Sony A&R man who came to see her live. She worked with Nashville super producer Paul Worley, whose credits include Lady Antebellum, the Band Perry, Sara Evans, Martina McBride and more, on her debut project. Worley calls Culley "the Adele of country."
"The recording process for this project has been amazing," Culley states. "Paul is not only my producer but also my mentor in Nashville. He puts up with my British sass and is brutally honest about every note and word recorded. Together, we have made a record that I am very proud of and can’t wait to share."
