Luke Combs was told he wasn't interesting enough, that he wasn't a true headliner, and that, "No one is ever going to pay money to see you." Now, with more than 13 No. 1 songs under his belt, you could say he's proving everyone wrong — including himself!

It's not that Combs believed what everyone said about him, he's just a very humble man. Before releasing his debut album This One's for You in 2017, the North Carolina native was just happy doing music "in some capacity ... being in a band, or singing background vocals on people's records, or being a demo singer or a songwriter."

"I didn't believe this would happen," he admitted when asked if he could have predicted his success.

It's the story he sings about during his song "Doin' This." It's that down-to-earth authenticity that has made him one of the biggest names in country music today. You could say it validates Combs' decision to quit college early and chase a music dream, despite having few contacts in Nashville and very little money.

When he first arrived in Music City, he was pushing songs that would eventually become No. 1 hits for him, but no one was taking the bait. "I finally got a meeting with a big publisher in town. I had 'Hurricane,' 'When It Rains It Pours,' 'She Got the Best of Me' and a work tape of 'One Number Away' on my phone," he recalls. "I played this guy all of it, and he says, 'I’ve got two things to tell you.' And I got ready. He says, 'First, you need to write better songs. And you’re never gonna be an artist. No one is going to pay money to see you.'"

He couldn't have been more wrong. People all over the world are paying to see Combs perform, and you can bet those stadiums will be loud as they sing every word to every hit song. You haven't really lived until you've heard thousands of people scream-singing "Cold as You."

However, they'll also be singing his sentimental songs with just as much gusto. Combs has proven his range when it comes to tempo and content with the success of songs like "Forever After All", "Even Though I'm Leaving" and "Going, Going, Gone."

Combs' massive success makes it difficult to narrow down the best of the bunch. However, these are the best Luke Combs songs every diehard fan should know by heart.
