Watch Miley Cyrus Tribute Chris Cornell With ‘As Hope and Promise Fade’
Miley Cyrus was part of the all-star I Am the Highway: A Tribute to Chris Cornell concert at the Forum in Inglewood, Calif., on Wednesday night (Jan. 16). The singer took the stage to deliver a mature, assured performance of "As Hope and Promise Fade."
The 26-year-old superstar didn't stray far from Cornell's original acoustic arrangement of the song, which appeared on his 2011 acoustic solo album, Songbook. She gave a very strong vocal performance, imbuing the lower notes of the song with a bluesy rasp and delivering the upper reaches of the dark melody with power and control.
Cornell's colleagues and former bandmates in Soundgarden, Audioslave and Temple of the Dog were on hand to pay their own musical tributes to the late singer, along with Foo Fighters, Metallica, Ryan Adams and more.

"I've been watching backstage, and it's f--king sick," Cyrus tells the audience in the fan-shot video above. "I wish I was where you guys were, so I could just enjoy everybody. Everybody being here, and me being here, it's such an honor."
Cornell was found dead on May 18, 2017, in his hotel room following a concert in Detroit. His death was ruled a suicide by hanging. The singer had a long history of depression.
Jimmy Kimmel hosted the tribute concert, which benefitted the Chris and Vicky Cornell Foundation and the Epidermolysis Bullosa Medical Research Foundation. Chris Stapleton turned in one of the most head-turning performances of the night with "The Keeper," which also appeared on Songbook, and he and Brandi Carlile also teamed up with Temple of the Dog for "Hunger Strike."
