Carrie Underwood’s Mom Joins Her on Stage to Rap ‘The Champion’ and It’s Ridiculously Awesome [Watch]
Carrie Underwood's mom, Carole Underwood, joined her on stage during a concert in their native Oklahoma on Thursday night (Oct. 24) to rap the middle section of Underwood's song "The Champion," and she brought the house down!
Underwood was performing in concert at the BOK Center in Tulsa, Okla., as part of her ongoing Cry Pretty Tour 360, which features a section every night in which the superstar brings a local audience member up on stage to rap the middle section that Ludacris originally contributed to his collaboration with Underwood in 2018. She got to the breakdown and yelled out, "Mom!" to introduce the segment, and the fans start to react in the video above as Underwood's mom strides from the wings and begins to rap, punctuated by bursts where Underwood joins her for emphasis.
The two join their voices for the song's powerful chorus at the end of the breakdown, and Underwood turned to social media to share video of the moment afterward, writing, "Nailed it! I kept trying to keep her on track! At the end she said 'Did I do OK?'"
"Who knew Mom could rap?!" she writes, adding the hashtag #MyMomsCoolerThanYourMom.

Tulsa World reports that Underwood gave her mom, who was an educator for decades, a big intro before her rap debut, telling them that the local champion she was about to bring out was a teacher for 25 years, has three daughters and volunteers at a local animal shelter.
“I’m not reading any of this off the teleprompter,” Underwood told the crowd. “How do I know all of this stuff about this woman? Because this is my mama. She is a champion. She has never sang in front of a ton of people like this before so when she gets on this stage, you guys better give her all your love and all the support.”
Underwood's Cry Pretty Tour 360 runs through Oct. 31, when it wraps in Detroit. She is set to co-host the 2019 CMA Awards on Nov. 13, joined this year by special guest hosts Reba McEntire and Dolly Parton. Underwood is also nominated multiple times, including a nod in the night's biggest category, Entertainer of the Year.
