When Things Get Crazy, Jessie James Decker Still Leans on Her Mom
As singer Jessie James Decker preps to head out on tour this weekend, she realizes she will be in Orlando with her fans rather than with her hubby Eric Decker and their three kids on Mother’s Day (May 12.)
But she has a feeling it will be all be okay.
“Eric will probably have something up his sleeve once I come home,” Decker tells Taste of Country during a recent interview. “The fact is that the baby doesn’t do well on the bus, so it’s just better this way.”
Indeed, this ongoing juggling act between her professional and personal life is something that Decker has gotten used to since releasing her debut album, Jessie James, in 2009. Through the years, that balance has been a whole lot easier to manage with help from not only Eric but also her own mom, Karen Parker.
In fact, long before kids, Jessie says her mom was the one that offered her a wealth of knowledge, the same knowledge she now tries her best to share with her young kids.
“My mom always told me that I could do whatever you want,” recalls the 31-year-old, who recently dropped her latest single “Roots and Wings.” “I didn’t grow up with money, but I was always taught to feel like I could do whatever I want, and now I want my kids to know that they can too.”
Granted, things can get crazy in the Decker household with 5-year-old Vivianne, 3-year-old Eric and one-year-old Forrest.
“Oh, when things get crazy, my mom gets that frantic phone call,” says Decker, who also devotes much time promoting her fashion line Kittenish. “She always knows what to say and has a way of putting everything in perspective. She encourages me, no matter what.”
