Like Taylor Swift, Tim McGraw Has Forgiven Kanye West
It took some time, but Tim McGraw has forgiven Kanye West for interrupting Taylor Swift during her acceptance speech at the MTV Video Music Awards in 2009.
In a new interview, McGraw opens up about meeting West and his wife Kim Kardashian at the TIME 100 gala in New York.
"I was a little disappointed with him after Taylor, but I didn’t know him," McGraw tells the Chicago Tribune. "Certainly as an artist, I get him. I think he’s a great artist. You can’t judge people over every little thing they do. You have to judge people in context as a whole. Or not judge people at all."
Both fathers and musicians, McGraw said he and West talked about what they have in common: music.
"Music was our common ground," he admits. "He was super nice to us that night. My daughters love him."
In an interview with Vanity Fair over the summer, Swift opened up about becoming friends with West.
"I feel like I wasn’t ready to be friends with [West] until I felt like he had some sort of respect for me, and he wasn’t ready to be friends with me until he had some sort of respect for me,” Swift explains. "So it was the same issue, and we both reached the same place at the same time."
She goes on to credit both her and Kanye's friendship with Jay Z for getting over that hurdle.
"I became friends with Jay Z, and I think it was important, for Jay Z, for Kanye and I to get along," she says. "And then Kanye and I both reached a place where he would say really nice things about my music and what I’ve accomplished, and I could ask him how his kid’s doing."
