Carrie Underwood to Mike Fisher After NHL Retirement: ‘So Excited to Have You Home’
Carrie Underwood is forever proud of Mike Fisher, but took extra care to show her support for her husband in a post after he announced his plans to retire from the NHL on Thursday (Aug. 3).
Fisher was in the league for 18 years.
"Captain @mfisher1212 I sure am going to miss watching you play and cheering you on with the rest of Smashville, but I so look forward to seeing what God has in store for you in this next chapter of your life," Underwood writes in a heartfelt post directed at her husband, alongside a photo of him in his Predators jersey, celebrating with his fellow players during a victorious game. "You've given your teammates and the game your all for so many years ... you've worked so hard and made us all so proud!"
The couple have one child, 2-year-old Isaiah, and the star admits they're excited to have Fisher at home with them more often. "Isaiah and I love you so much and are so excited to be able to have you home a lot more," she adds. "We can't wait to cheer on the @predsnhl WITH you in the stands!"

Fisher was traded to the Nashville Predators in 2011 after playing with the Ottawa Senators in his native Canada for 12 years. He served as captain of the Nashville team during the 2016-2017 season, leading them to the coveted Stanley Cup Finals for the first time in the team's history and bringing hundreds of thousands of excited fans to the city to watch the saga unfold. Several country music stars showed their faithful support throughout the series, posting photos of their Preds pride on social media.
Underwood herself surprised the crowd during a Stanley Cup playoff game on April 17 when she stepped onto the ice to sing the National Anthem, with many of the genre's biggest stars including Lady Antebellum, Luke Bryan, Trisha Yearwood and Faith Hill following suit and performing the anthem during home games.
The 2017-2018 NHL season kicks off Oct. 4 without Fisher.
