Eric Church's comments about television singing competitions have split the country audience. Reader responses to his remarks and perceived insults in the current issue of Rolling Stone were intense, but far from unanimous. There's little doubt that he voiced an opinion held by many -- but certainly not all -- country music fans.

Today, our readers poll asks you, what did you think of Church's incendiary remarks? Is he right to question the path to a recording contract that starts with auditioning for 'American Idol' or 'The Voice'? Or does the long-term success of artists like Carrie Underwood and Miranda Lambert ('Nashville Star') -- and more recently Scotty McCreery -- prove him wrong? And what about Blake Shelton, who has only furthered his reach in the industry and gained new fans for country music thanks to his stint as a coach on 'The Voice'?

Weigh in on the day's readers poll, and feel free to expand upon your opinion in the comments section below. We'd love to hear it.
