Luke Bryan ‘More Confident’ in Songs for New Album, ‘Kill the Lights’

Luke Bryan has returned to songwriting for his upcoming album, Kill the Lights, and he's found a balance in the new collection that he thinks fans will love.

Bryan began his career as a songwriter for other artists, including Billy Currington, for whom he wrote "Good Directions." But his recent albums have leaned heavily on contributions from outside songwriters. That's not so for Kill the Lights; Bryan recently announced the track listing for the album, which includes six songs that he co-wrote, as well as selections from some of the top writers in Nashville.

As a result, Bryan is “more confident in the well-rounded” collection of songs than he has been about any other album of his career, he tells Nashville's The Tennessean newspaper.

“I think I’ve always tried to make my albums where there’s something for anybody and everybody, and no matter who you are or where you’re from, you can go through that album [and find something],” Bryan says. “I think there are things you can really hang your hat on, and I think there’s things you’re really going to love.”

The album's first single is "Kick the Dust Up," which plows the same row as much of Bryan's more recent fare. But the album also contains a duet with Karen Fairchild from Little Big Town titled "Home Alone Tonight," a song from Tom Douglas called "To the Moon and Back" and an introspective ballad, "Fast," that Bryan debuted at his fan club party during CMA Music Festival.

“I’ve got some ‘Drink a Beer’ moments; I’ve got some love songs moments; I’ve got some uptempo moments and everything,” he says. “It’s going to be fun.”

Kill the Lights is set for release on Aug. 7.
