Zach Bryan shouted vulgarities at a fan in Mississippi last Saturday, but he says he was just joking.

The internet didn't find the funny, and that's led to a familiar script: Bryan's snappy defense, Gavin Adcock dunking on him and the deletion of X (formerly Twitter) and Instagram pages.

The "Something in the Orange" hitmaker has made headline after headline for (at best) not understanding how his words will be received.

Here are the greatest hits, so to speak:

  1. In September of 2023, he said, "These f—ing cops are out of control” and “You boys need checked, a bunch of f—ing middle aged white dudes arresting people" as he was being arrested.
  2. Last summer, he told a 14-year-old fan to "GOMD" (get off my d---) when the kid complained about not getting an autograph on X.
  3. Roaming around Born & Raised festival shouting Adcock's name when he had full access to the backstage area.

The latest chapter was written in Starkville, Miss., on May 2.

What Did Zach Bryan Say This Time?

A longtime fan who goes by @LoganW_24 on TikTok shared video of the interaction.

"I gotten there really early to be at the gates and saw him as I was walking up. I don’t take it to heart for what he said, but still calling a fan a c*mshot after asking for a photo is kinda crazy," he writes.

You're right @LoganW_24. Calling a fan a c*mshot is kind of crazy. But, there may be more to the story.

Social media users were quick to point out that Bryan was quoting a sketch comedy show called I Think You Should Leave With Tim Robinson. It aired on Netflix from 2019 to 2023 and is known for cringe comedy.

In the above video, one can only make out Bryan saying the word "c--shot" but he's clearly starting a sentence before Logan W even begins to ask for his picture.

Before deleted his X profile, Bryan said, "You guys are so soft & weird" alongside videos of the incident and a sketch from the show.

Later he added, "A world you can’t yell ‘I Think You Should Leave’ references out the window in is a world I don’t want to be in."

I Think You Should Leave may not be the most famous Netflix show ever, but it has a loyal audience and receives mostly positive reviews from critics and fans. It's not clear how large the viewership is, however.

Adcock spied the new drama and — per Country Now — wrote, "W for the home team" in the comments.
